Riding Lesson Program

Although we specialize in helping 4H members and youth riders achieve their horsemanship
goals, we have a large number of adult students who are either returning to riding after an
extended absence or are beginning to ride.

We take pride in building confidence and foundation in basic horsemanship in our beginner
riders.

Rest assured that you and your children are receiving personalized, safe instruction from a
professional, insured Instructor. Our instructor to student ratio is the best!  Our safety record
speaks for itself. Safety is our number one priority, and you will never be over-mounted. Our
horses are safe for all ages and riding levels.

Once comfortable with their skills, we give our students several opportunities throughout the
year to go compete at local shows. This gives our students a sense of pride, teaches them
about good sportsmanship and allows them to network with other horse people in the
community and have FUN!

All students will learn about:
-equine anatomy
- equine psychology
- equine first aid
-riding equipment
-arena and barn safety
-equine care and nutrition
-horsemanship

What we're about
We utilize progressive learning techniques, positive reinforcement,
confidence-building exercises and even mounted games to make riding lessons a fun,
rewarding and safe experience!

Ride your own horse or learn on one of ours. Whether you're a new rider who's
interested in showing locally, or an older student who's getting back into riding for the
fun of it, we have several sweet, husband and beginner-safe horses for you to ride! We
ride in the arena, in the fields, on the trails.

Scheduling is flexible. Weekend, evening and daytime lessons  available in beginner
to intermediate English and Western disciplines including basic horsemanship,
equitation, trail and novice jumping (ground poles and cross rails)
.

We also allow and encourage students to haul in their own horses for lessons. Horses
must have a current negative Coggins and vaccines.

Coaching at shows - $30 per day
Hauling - $1.00 per mile
Horse Use Fee - $10 per day
Rider is responsible for show fees such as entry fees, stabling and grounds
fees.

HMA LESSON PROGRAM FAQ'S

Q: How old does a student have to be in order to take lessons?
A: We teach riders ages 6 and up. We offer half hour beginner lessons for riders 6-12 years
of age. In our experience, children under the age of 6 tire easily and have difficulty staying
focused.

Q: When do you schedule lessons? How long is a lesson?
A: We teach from 10am to 8pm Monday through Thursday, Friday 10am to 2pm and Saturday
from 9am to 4pm. We are closed on Sundays. Lessons are a half hour or an hour in length.

Q: What are your lesson prices?
A: Our hour long private lessons are $45 per hour; half hour private lessons are $25 per hour;
hour long semi-private lessons are $35 per hour. We offer lesson discounts to boarders and
lessees.

Q: What would I learn in a typical first beginner lesson?
A: Upon arriving at HMA you will be given a tour of the facilities and be given a chance to meet
the horses. We will sign a liabilty/lesson agreement. You will be introduced to your horse and
will be shown how to groom the horse and tack up. We will proceed to the arena, where you
will be evaluated and taught how to correctly mount the horse, as well as basic commands,
such as halt, walk, and steering. You will then learn how to dismount and un-tack your horse.

Q: I  purchased a Living Social package and I'm coming from far away. Will you teach a 2-3
hour lesson?
A: For the health and well-being of our horses, we do not give any more than an hour lesson.

Q: Does my child need to wear riding attire?
A :For your child's comfort we recommend jeans, breeches or jodphurs.  Footwear such as
paddock boots or cowboy boots with a 1/2 inch heel is preferred.  Riding in shorts or sandals
is not permitted. All riders under the age of 18 are required to wear an ASTM/SEI approved
riding helmet. Bicycle helmets are not permitted.

Q:.Do I need to bring my own tack?
A: HMA supplies all tack for lessons. If you are leasing a horse and would like to bring your
own tack, then it needs to be checked by an instructor first.

Q: What is your policy if I need to cancel or reschedule a lesson?
A: As parents, we understand that emergencies arise. However, we are extremely busy and
need ample notice to fill your open lesson time. We do require 24 hours notice of cancellation.
If notice is not received, you will forfeit that day's lesson. If you no call/no show, you will also
forfeit your lesson. More than one occurrence within 30 days will result in the forfeiture of your
Living Social voucher or the cancellation of your lesson package without a refund.
For your safety, we DO NOT teach during severe thunderstorms. There will be times when
HMA will be required to cancel a lesson due to inclement weather or other emergencies.
Those lessons can be made up at the client's convenience and will not be subject to forfeiture.

Q. Are lessons offered year-round?
A: Lessons are held in our indoor arena throughout the year, including the winter months, as
long as the conditions are safe.

Q: We purchased a Living Social package for my daughter but now my other child wants to
ride. If we bring her along to the lesson would you have a horse for her to ride?
A: We would love to teach your child to ride. However, we plan our horse assignment in
advance, and cannot accommodate a last-minute student.  We would be more than happy to
schedule a lesson for your other child with advance notice.

Q: What forms of payment do you accept?
A: We gladly accept your personal check, cash or credit cards through Paypal.

Q: Do you offer any lesson packages?
A: We do! Our current package offers one free lesson with the purchase of six lessons. We
also offer a Beginner Lesson Package for $160. Gift certificates are available.

Q: Do you offer boarding or leasing?
A: HMA does offer boarding to qualified applicants. Please check out our Boarding page. We
also offer horses for lease to 4H members and select clients in our lesson program. Please
contact Jezzie for more information.
